Twitter Takes a Step at Retention Through Understanding

How to Use Twitter? There’s a Guide for That

Some of Twitter’s users stopped Tweeting after the first 30 days with the network. Why? Well, Twitter seems to think that part of the reason is that people don’t know how to use it, so they’ve launched a guide on how to use Twitter, Twitter 101 for Business.

The guide states:

“Every day, millions of people use Twitter to create, discover and share ideas with others. Now, people are turning to Twitter as an effective way to reach out to businesses, too. From local stores to big brands, and from brick-and-mortar to internet-based or service sector, people are finding great value in the connections they make with businesses on Twitter. “

The guide isn’t the only big piece of news as the site’s homepage consisting of the question, “What are you doing?” will be changing, according to an exclusive report from All Things Digital.

The page is intended to show potential Tweeters what they can use it for: Tweets from CNN, information about celebrities and so on. It’s designed to show people what the site offers without actually signing up.

"We coordinated with business students and writers to surface some interesting findings, best practices, steps for getting started, and case studies," says Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. "The results demonstrate how customers are getting value out of Twitter and suggest techniques businesses can employ to enhance that value."

Takeaway

This is a good move by Twitter. The past year has given the network a lot of hype, so people decided to check it out. Many people just didn’t get it, so Twitter aims to address all of those issues by offering a guide and letting people know up-front what the value of Twitter is through its homepage.
