Moms Use Social Media More than Average Adult
:: By Cathy Reed, Client Strategy Director
A recent Retail Advertising & Marketing Association survey shows that women with children are more likely to use social media platforms like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter than average adults.
Among moms with children at home:
- 17% regularly or occasionally use Twitter
- 42% regularly or occasionally use MySpace
- 60% regularly or occasionally use Facebook
More about Moms' Social Behaviors
Moms are using these social media platforms to share their experiences and seek advice from other moms, with over 93% of moms regularly or occasionally seeking advice from others before buying a product or service.
Women trust the advice of family and friends, and social media platforms such as Facebook making sharing that knowledge even easier. Facebook continues to become even more popular among moms with kids, with 83% of moms who use Facebook logging on each day.
Moms can be an influential target for many advertisers and one that should not be ignored. Marketers must always consider social media when trying to reach women with children, especially when only 5% of moms strongly dislike ads they see on Facebook. The opportunity is there to provide special offers or coupons to Facebook fans that are compelling to moms.
Bottom Line
Marketers who can make a mom’s life easier will be regarded in a positive light, and advertisers should continue to seek ways to provide meaningful messages in the social media space to this heavily influential group.
